Yesterday, when most pollsters were still predicting a win for Hillary Clinton, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla issued his own dire prediction about how important the outcome of the US election is.

“Indonesia and the world certainly hope for peace. We want peace and for the economy to keep moving forward. Yes, if Trump wins,  it seems like that will be difficult, it will be difficult for the world,” Kalla said at the Shangri La Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Tempo.

Kalla said that while many people and countries expect Hillary to win the election. Previously he said that Russia would likely to be the country happiest about a Trump victory.

The vice president did say that, whoever the winner, the impact on trade relations between Indonesia and the United States will likely not be significant, although he noted that Trump would likely pass more protectionist policies to protect America’s national interests.

We hope that we won’t have to find out whether or not Kalla is right about Trump’s effect on world peace, but it seems more and more likely that we will…
