After a month-long trial period of the odd-even traffic rule in Jakarta, the traffic control scheme going to be officially enforced tomorrow, ie. you’ll get fined for violating it.
Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Director Grand Commissioner Syamsul Bahri said the police and officers from the Jakarta Transportation Agency are ready to catch violators of the odd-even rule starting tomorrow.
“From the police there will be 200 personnel, 100 in the morning and 100 in the afternoon,” he said, as quoted by Kompas today.
Syamsul said the officers will be spread throughout various checkpoints on odd-even zones and that they’d be in constant communication with each other to identify violators.
Should you need a reminder, violators of the rule will be fined Rp 500,000.

Earlier this month, Jakarta Metro Police Chief Moechgiyarto said that, based on traffic department reports, the odd-even rule is “very effective” in that it reduced congestion by about 20% and that it’s easier to enforce than its predecessor, the 3-in-1 rule.
In addition, the odd-even rule also contributed to an increase in TransJakarta bus passengers on affected zones.
The odd-even rule covers Jalan Sisingamaharaja, Jalan Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, and parts of Jalan Gatot Subroto from 7am to 10am and 4:30pm to 8:30pm on weekdays. Vehicles with odd-numbered plates will be allowed to use those roads during rush hours on odd calendar dates and vice-versa.
