Number of TransJakarta passengers increased following odd-even trial: Transportation Agency

Whether you love or hate the odd-even traffic scheme, early official reviews of its month-long period has concluded that it has indeed cut down on traffic while also having its desired effect of turning more people towards public transportation.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Andri Yansyah today reported that ever since the odd-even trial began on July 27, there has been quite a notable increase in passengers on TransJakarta buses. The biggest increase was seen on Busway Corridor I, which runs along the odd-even zone that includes Jalan Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin.

“The increase in passengers on TransJakarta Corridor I from Blok M-Kota is 9.7%, which is 68,000 to 75,000 passengers (daily average),” Andri said, as quoted by Kompas.

There were also increases on surrounding Busway Corridors too, such as on Corridor IX (8.2%) and Corridor VI (6.5%).

In addition, Andri reported that there have been a 15% overall decrease of cars driving in odd-even zones ever since the trial began.

The trial for the odd-even scheme ends on August 26. Considering its reported success, the policy will likely officially replace the 3-in-1 scheme soon after.

The odd-even rule covers Jalan Sisingamaharaja, Jalan Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, and parts of Jalan Gatot Subroto from 7am to 10am and 4:30pm to 8:30pm on weekdays. Vehicles with odd-numbered plates will be allowed to use those roads during rush hours on odd calendar dates and vice-versa.
