Passengers at Soekarno-Hatta airport already on the rise in the lead up to Lebaran holiday

The Lebaran Idul Fitri holiday is still more than a week away, yet people are already flying out of Jakarta to start their holiday a little earlier than most.

In fact, data shows that the number of passengers flying out of the Soekarno-Hatta has increased significantly for the past few days.

“We’re seeing increases [in the number of passengers] for both domestic and international flights. But the most drastic increase is happening for domestic flights,” said Soekarno-Hatta Senior General Manager Suriawan Wakan, as quoted by Warta Kota.

The first significant increase in domestic flight passenger numbers was recorded last Friday (12 days before Lebaran), with 68,995 passengers flying in or out of Soekarno-Hatta that day. That number is 30% more than during the same period last year.

The trend continued into the weekend and the number of domestic flight passengers is expected to continue to increase until Saturday July 2, which is 4 days before the Lebaran holiday starts on July 6. The number of passengers during this year’s pre-Lebaran period is predicted to rise by 32% from last year.

Sure would have been nice if they could have gotten the new Terminal 3 open in time to help deal with this.
