Indonesian women prefer men with good sense of humor over those with good looks: survey

What do Indonesian women think is the ideal type of guy? According to the results of a recent survey, they might actually prefer somebody like Mr. Bean compared to say, Craig Daniels.

Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration. But a survey of 9,136 mobile users in Indonesia, conducted by technology UCWeb, did show that Indonesian woman found men who were funny and had a good sense of humor to be more attractive than those who were physically handsome or romantic.

The survey, titled ‘Vote for Your Ideal Romance’, asked respondents about their partner preferences. Men who were “cute and humorous” were chosen as their ideal by 36.3% of female survey takers, compared to 32.8% who chose “simple and humble” as their preferred trait. Only 10.8% of women chose “handsomeness” as the number one quality they look for in a man.

The opposite side of the survey results showed that 59.2% of Indonesian men preferred a woman with a “sweet personality”,, above traits such as humor, confidence or intelligence. Only 5% of men said that a woman’s beauty was of paramount importance to them

Another interesting result of the survey is that 43.9% of Indonesian survey takers said had their first romance before the age of 16.

So, once again, we have written about a survey that was done in pretty unscientific manner, including a non-random sampling of respondents and dubious categories, and made primarily to generate stories such as this one.

But hey, even surveys such as this one can generate some interesting discussion. For example, is it possible that survey takers, even anonymous ones, might lie about how important looks are to them so as not to feel superficial themselves? Or is it true that women and men actually care more about personality that physical appearance? We’re sure you guys will be able to figure it all out in the comments on this story…
