Do a lot of expats come to Indonesia looking for love? Well, certainly some come looking for a certain kind of love… But how many actually find true romance?
According to the recently released results of a survey done by expat networking site InterNations, it seems a lot of them do. Based on the responses of 14,000 people living in 195 countries, Indonesia was ranked #6 on Internations list of “Top 10 Places for Expat Romance”
The list is not purely based on expats being finding love in their new countries, but more generally where expats are most satisfied with their romantic relationship. Indeed, 12% of the expats in Indonesia who responded to the survey said they were spouses who traveled to the archipelago with their partners from their home country.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the survey found that single expats looking for love are most likely find it in tropical Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, which had the top three highest percentages of expats who reported meeting their partner while in their host countries. In fact, 84% of the survey takers in Indonesia said they met their local partner while here.
Out of all the survey respondents, 38% said they disagree with the statement that the expat lifestyle makes having a relationship difficult for single respondents, but expats in the top ten countries were more likely to disagree with this.
Given that it was a voluntary survey and not a random sampling, the results are not exactly scientific. And one could see how male expats and female expats could have very different perceptions of how easy it is to find romance here.
