Pondok Indah car rampage suspect Christopher Daniel Sjarif released from prison, gets city detention

The Mitsubishi Outlander Christopher drove right after the incident.

Judges presiding over the case of car rampage suspect Christopher Daniel Sjarif at the South Jakarta District Court granted the suspect’s release from prison for the time being.

However, Christopher is not allowed to leave the city while the trial is ongoing.

“After reading into the case and referring to article 31 of KUHAP, [the court] is changing the defendant’s prison custody into a city detention until July 31, 2015,” said head judge Made Sutisna, as quoted by Sindonews today.

Sutisna said judges came to the decision after the defendant and his victims and their families reached a peaceful out of court settlement. Christopher’s family guarantees that he won’t leave the city during the city detention period.

Prosecutors previously charged Christopher with five years in prison for traffic violations that led to the death of others. Christopher could’ve faced a much longer prison sentence had the police not curiously retracted Christopher’s initial drugs test result, which showed that he was driving under the influence of LSD.

On the evening of January 20, Christopher drove his friend’s Mitsubishi Outlander on Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. He drove recklessly and committed hit and runs against multiple vehicles, killing four motorcyclists in the process.
