White Mitsubishi Outlander destroyed after Christopher crashed the car into multiple vehicles, killing four people
Update: Netizens outraged as Pondok Indah car rampage suspect escapes drug charges
Christopher Daniel Sjarif (23), who killed four motorists during a car rampage in Pondok Indah on January 20, was cleared of drug charges after he tested negative for illegal drug use. However, as most of you probably remember, the police’s initial drug tests showed Christopher testing positive for LSD consumption before he drove a car into multiple vehicles.
The police said that even though Christopher admitted to LSD use at the time of the incident, more recent drug test results suggest otherwise.
“A urine test from the BNN (National Narcotics Agency) and a blood test from the National Police Forensic Laboratory [indicated that Christopher tested negative for drugs]. These are [the facts] being used by investigators,” said head of the South Jakarta Police, Wahyu Hadiningrat, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.
Wahyu added that the suspect may have admitted to being guilty of drug use, but the police investigate cases based on facts.
“Our duty is not to guess, but to present facts. The fact is, Christopher did not consume drugs,” he said.
South Jakarta Police Spokesman Martinus Sitompul also confirmed that Christopher did not consume drugs at the time of the incident. Curiously, several media outlets such as Warta Kota, Tempo and Merdeka quoted Martinus on January 21 as saying that the BNN declared Christopher tested positive for LSD use.
As things stand, Christopher is only charged with reckless traffic violations that led to the death of others, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison. We hope Christopher’s wealthy parents didn’t in any way influence the recent turn of events, as some rich kids have gotten away with traffic murder in the past.
