No more freebies: Kaki lima vendors swamped by hungry crowd at presidential parade

The party has only just begun, but already people at the presidential parade are disappointed. The reported hundreds of thousands of free food (mostly mie bakso) have almost all been given away by noon.

A few kaki limas are still serving people free food, but we doubt that will last for much longer.

“We’re out! We’re out!” said a bakso vendor as he shut the lid to his pan.

The sea of people stretching from the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to Monumen Nasional quite rightly needed some free food to keep their strength up as they wait to see their new President Joko Widodo under the hot Jakarta sun. Some probably didn’t get their share of free food, but the day is still young and the party will rage on.
