Social networking is a young person’s game, perhaps, but when mingling online turns into sexual blackmail, the rules get thrown out the window very quickly.
That’s what one 13-year old girl found out when she became the victim of an acquaintance she had made through WeChat and WhatsApp this past March.
In May, the victim was asked by the suspect to send him pornographic photos, including ones in which she bared part of her breasts.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Azmi Abu Kassim told The Rakyat Post‘s Noraizura Ahmad that in June, the suspect got the victim to send him lurid videosof herself committing obscene acts.
“After the incident, the victim did not contact the suspect again,” Azmi said.
It was after the victim cut off contact with the suspect that the blackmailing began, with the suspect threatening to distribute the photos and videos he had received should the victim refuse to entertain him.
The victim, fearing for her safety, lodged a report at the nearest police station.
In the wake of the report, police detained a 13-year old suspect in Sepang yesterday.
The suspect, a Form One student attending a school in Sepang, is now in custody and is being held for investigation.
“Police also seized two mobile phones of various brands, a laptop and the suspect’s clothes to help in the investigation.”
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
