Passenger arrested for trying to sneak gun through Soekarno-Hatta Airport security

Going through airport security can be a tedious and invasive process, but it certainly seems justified when aviation security officers do their jobs and protect us from serious threats.

Today, Soekarno-Hatta Airport security caught someone who was in possession of a Glock handgun, as well as five bullets. The suspect, who has been identified as 24-year-old DA (gender not disclosed) was scheduled to fly out of Terminal 2 to Semarang with NAM Air.

“It’s true that we secured [the suspect] and transferred them to the Soekarno-Hatta Police Precinct. DA was secured before being able to board the flight to Semarang,” said Soekarno-Hatta Airport Spokesman Dewandono Prasetyo, as quoted by Okezone today.

It wasn’t revealed exactly at which point in the departure process DA was found to be in possession of the gun and whether the gun was in DA’s person or in their luggage.

DA is currently in police custody. It’s not yet clear what charges they might face.

While aviation security should rightly be commended in this case, the same can’t be said for the security officers who let a visibly intoxicated pilot through a security checkpoint in Surabaya’s Juanda Airport recently.
