A massive fire engulfed the Pinangsia sub-district of Tamansari, West Jakarta, last night, displacing 700 locals whose homes were destroyed.

According to reports, as many as 90 houses in a densely populated neighborhood located along Jalan Jembatan Senti were destroyed in the fire. The blaze started at around 8:45 pm yesterday and firefighters managed to put it out by around 10:45 pm.

“We have relocated the affected citizens to take refuge in three locations,” said Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Husein Murad today, as quoted by Tempo.

Husein added that the displaced residents are now taking refuge in two public schools and a church in the neighborhood. There are currently enough supplies to feed the 700 victims for the next three days.
