Catch some hot jazz in Kota Tua (Friday night)

The Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Company (JOTRC) has been charged with bringing new life to the capital’s crumbling Kota Tua historical district, and one of the ways they are doing to that is by holding a jazz concert series at various notable locales throughout Old Town. The first event in their Old Town Jazz series is taking place at the Van Vleuten & Cox Building and will feature famed jazz quartet Shadow Puppets as well as veteran singer Harvey Malaihollo. Listen to some great indie bands jam to raise awareness about sexual harassment (Saturday)

Put on by PERFILMA FHUI, a student organization from University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law, JAMS stands for Justice, Art and Music on Stage and is aimed at raising awareness about the laws surrounding sexual harassment in Indonesia. Held at Salihara this Saturday, it features a lineup of great indie bands including The Upstairs, Elephant Kind, Polka Wars, Anomalyst, Reality Club and JIVVA. True to its name, Artotel is a boutique hotel which also frequently hosts art exhibitions (plus it has a great rooftop bar). “Rising Length of Light” by Redbase Art features the work of eight rising talents from Indonesia and Malaysia including Erizal As, I Made Widya Diputra, Ismail Awi and Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj. Exhibition lasts until January 12.

Get into the Christmas spirit with this classical music concert (Sat & Sun)

Aula Simfonia Jakarta is bringing the holiday cheer this weekend with two Christmas Concerts, one on Saturday at 5pm and one on Sunday at 4pm. Among the classical masterpieces the orchestra will be presenting is Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Tickets start at Rp 150k. Rock out at Jakarta’s best indie band showcase, Superbad (Sunday)
