#SuperDamai212 demonstrators tell Kompas TV satellite van to leave protest site

Protesters at today’s rally against Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama were filmed telling a Kompas TV satellite van to leave Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, which runs just outside the National Monument (Monas), where the #SuperDamai212 (translated to Super Peaceful December 2) protest is centralized.

Warta Kota reported that several protesters were unhappy at the presence of Kompas TV, and they forcefully told the driver of the satellite van to leave the protest site.

Police officers calmed the protesters down and helped the van back up into Jakarta City Hall, while the protesters continued their march towards Monas.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries amongst the van’s crew – who were only doing their job – during the incident.

Kompas TV has been unjustly branded as anti-Islam by hardline groups. Last month, a Kompas TV reporter’s online fundraiser for a mosque renovation was temporarily taken down after it received hateful comments from people questioning the reporter’s motives simply on the basis that he works for Kompas TV.
