5 Cool Things To Do in Jakarta This Weekend (Dec 2-4)

Celebrate mustache removal at the Movember Charity Mustache Auction

If you or some guy you know grew an awkward creepy mustache last month, it’s hopefully because of Movember (and not just a personal fashion statement). Movember is a movement in which guys grow mustaches during November in order to raise awareness about the dangers of prostate cancer. To mark the end of Movember in Jakarta, there’s going to be a charity mustache auction at Amigos in Mega Kuningan on Saturday, with all proceeds going to benefit Komunitas Taufan, one of our favorite charities in Jakarta which helps the families of children who have cancer. There will also be beer pong, mustache cookies, door prizes and drink specials – all for a very good cause. For more info

Immerse yourself in aquatic art at this exhibition at Dia.Lo.Gue

Dia.Lo.Gue art gallery in Kemang is currently hosting a fascinating multimedia art exhibition about the relationship between man and water. The Exi(s)t programme is aimed at spotlighting young Jakarta-based artists and this latest in the series explores the notion of the sea and its existence in the city within the context of urbanism, development, and the archipelagic state.

Dive deep into documentaries at Screendocs

Jointly put on by Dutch cultural center Erasmus Haus and Institut Français d’Indonésie, Screendocs is not just a film festival but a film literacy program, featuring 30 ground-breaking documentary films as well as master classes, workshops and virtual reality experiences. The documentaries cover a vast array of subject matter, from a homeless shelter in Switzerland to the transgender community in Cuba to the bay reclamation projects in both Bali and Jakarta. For a full schedule and more info check out the Screendocs website.

See the light in the “Shadow Dance” exhibition at Art1

I Nyoman Erawan is a Balinese artist who has earned praise internationally for his nuanced, complex works that have also proven controversial at times. His “Shadow Dancer” solo exhibition is an also excellent chance to check out the lovely Art1: New Museum gallery if you haven’t had a chance yet.

Stomp to the beat with Tenishia at Colosseum

The year’s biggest dance party, Djakarta Warehouse Project, is happening next weekend but if you can’t wait that long to bust a groove than Tenishia may be your Saturday solution. Performing as part of the Road to DWP series, Joven Grech is the man behind Tenishia. Although Tenishia used to be a duo, Joven is now a solo act but his mastery of trance and chill out tunes remains strong.
