Buddhist temple in W. Kalimantan attacked with Molotov, Catholic church in E. Java threatened with bomb

A Buddhist temple in Singkawang, West Kalimantan was attacked with a Molotov cocktail early this morning at around 2:30 am according to a report by the Banjarmasin Post

The Budi Dharma Vihara temple was empty at the time so fortunately there were no casualties. The temple did not suffer any major damage as a result of the explosive.

Trustees of the temple said it was safe for the moment and under guard.

Separately, a Catholic Church in the city of Kota Batu in East Java has reported receiving a bomb threat this morning at around 8:30 am.

The secretary of the Paroki Gembala Baik (Good Shepard) Catholic Church reported that the bomb threat was received over the phone and that the caller sounded like a woman.

In light of yesterday’s Molotov attack on a church in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, which injured three children and killed one, the threat was taken especially seriously. Police sent a bomb squad to scour the church for explosives and have increased security at churches throughout East Java. No signs of explosives have been found yet.

It is not yet clear if there is any connection between the two Molotov cocktail attacks and the bomb threat in Kota Batu. In the case of the attack on the church in Samarinda, police have already arrested five suspects they believe have links to the terrorist organization ISIS.
