President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has been dubbed many things, but a fashion icon? You better believe it now.
In the early hours of Saturday, following the massive protest against Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama the previous evening, Jokowi addressed the nation via a press conference at the State Palace during which he condemned the unravelling of the protest, which began peacefully but descended into violence and chaos after nightfall.
It seems like some people were less interested in the president’s serious message than his eye-catching outerwear. Many an eagle-eyed fashionistas took note of the stylish khaki bomber jacket Jokowi wore during the press conference and it was soon revealed that the exact same outerwear is available at Zara stores across Indonesia.
That very same day, several Zara stores in Jakarta reported that the jacket had been sold out.
“All sizes are sold out. From the morning, many were looking for Jokowi’s jacket,” said a Zara store employee in Plaza Indonesia, as quoted by Wolipop on Saturday.
In addition, the jacket was also reportedly sold out in the store’s branches in Grand Indonesia and Pondok Indah Mall on Saturday.
No word yet on whether Zara will re-stock the sizzling hot fashion item or if they’re still available in the brand’s other numerous stores throughout the capital and country. According to Zara’s official website, the jacket costs Rp 899,000, which is a pretty small price to pay to be able to look both hip and presidential, in our opinion.
