West Jakarta man allegedly burns wife’s face and back with iron for not ironing his shirt

A disturbing case of domestic violence allegedly occurred in the district of Tamansari in West Jakarta recently, in which a man was reported to have burned his wife with an iron because she wouldn’t iron his shirt.

Tamansari Police Chief AKBP Nasriadi told reporters that the incident occurred yesterday morning. According to Nasriadi, the suspect, a 30-year-old man who went by the initial F, was angry that his wife, 25-year-old NA, refused to iron his work shirt and played with her phone instead.

“That made the suspect angry. So he took the iron, which was hot, and took it to his wife’s face,” Nasriadi said, as quoted by Okezone today.

After putting the iron to NA’s face, F went on to burn her back with the iron as she was trying to escape.

NA then called the police, who arrived soon after and arrested F. He reportedly offered no resistance during the arrest.

F is today being interrogated at the Tamansari precinct. It’s not yet clear what charges he would face. Meanwhile, the police did not reveal the extent of NA’s injuries.

If you or anybody you know is a victim of domestic abuse, you can report it to the police and/or The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) at 021-3903-963.
