Elderly, veterans, disabled people can ride the TransJakarta for free starting November 1

Even though it was reported a while ago that elderly and disabled Jakartans are able to ride TransJakarta buses for free, it turns out that the policy has not yet formally been implemented.

PT TransJakarta public relations officer Prasetia Budi today released a statement announcing that several passenger categories would be able to ride the TransJakarta for free, but that the policy would only come into effect starting November 1.

The free ride policy covers the elderly, veterans of war, disabled citizens, owners of the KPS Jabodetabek social protection card and residents of Kepulauan Seribu.

Starting October 17, the aforementioned passengers may apply for a specialized card called the TJ Card, which grants holders free access to use the TransJakarta bus. Registration for the TJ Card can be done at all TransJakarta bus stops.

The TJ Card works exactly the same way as a regular TransJakarta card, in that users have to tap in at the origin bus stop and tap out at the destination bus stop.

It must be noted that the free ride policy doesn’t cover trips to and from feeder stations and satellite cities.
