Famous US “breastaurant” chain Hooters will be opening soon in Jakarta’s Kemang neighborhood

Way back in January 2015, we reported that the famous United States “breastaurant” (no we did not make up that ridiculous word, it is an actual industry term) chain Hooters, famous for its… chicken wings, had plans to expand to more locations throughout Asia via their international franchisee partner Destination Resorts, including Indonesia.

At the time we hypothesized that if Hooters was going to open up anywhere in Indonesia, it would be the holiday island of Bali. But as it turns out, Indonesia’s first Hooters will be opening soon in Jakarta’s very own Kemang neighborhood.

The Facebook page for Hooters Jakarta indicates that the restaurant will be located on Kemang Raya and signs announcing its opening have already gone up on its space across the street from Eastern Promise.

In case you are not familiar with the Hooters brand, this recruitment video posted on their Facebook page should give you a pretty good idea of what they are all about:

Hooters has over 400 outlets in the US, and in Asia they have outlets in Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong. According to the Hooters Asia website, in addition to Jakarta, new outlets will soon be opened in Manila and Phnom Penh.

The exact date of the opening of Hooters in Kemang has not been announced, but it raises many questions. Like, will their chicken wings be just as good as in other locations? And, more pressingly, how long until the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) or some other group tries to have it shut down?
