Watch: Police dramatically rescue Chinese national before he can jump from hotel roof

Liu Yabin, a 24-year-old Chinese national, attempted suicide yesterday afternoon by jumping off the 8th floor roof of a hotel in Tamansari, West Jakarta.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene after Liu was spotted teetering on the edge of the hotel roof, looking like he was about to jump. Luckily, this happened:

The police are now investigating the motive behind Liu Yabin’s attempted suicide.

“He entered Jakarta 10 days ago. He has never been to Jakarta before,” said Tamansari Police Chief Nasriadi, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

The police said that Liu Yabin doesn’t know anyone in the city and that he doesn’t have any money on him in Jakarta.

While he could be suffering from depression, the police say there’s a possibility that Liu Yabin came to Jakarta under the instructions of a criminal syndicate.

“So it looks like he was ordered to go to Jakarta. But when he got here, he didn’t get what he wanted or hoped for as promised,” Nasriadi said.

Liu Yabin was taken to the Husada Hospital in Central Jakarta for a mental and medical check-up.

If you or anybody you know is suffering from mental health issues and urgently needs to talk to somebody, you can call the Ministry of Health’s mental health hotline at 500-454.
