A street sweeper made an explosive discovery early this morning when she found a hand grenade on Jalan Kapten Tendean in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta.

The head of public relations for the Jakarta ,Police Commissioner Awi Setiyono confirmed the news, saying “It’s true, an employee of the sanitation department found [the grenade] at around 6:00 am,” as quoted by Tempo.

Awi said the grenade was found by a sweeper named Atun who was working on the street and found the explosive wrapped in part of a motorcycle tire. She immediately reported it to the local police.

Police arrived at the scene at about 6.15 am and seeing the potential danger posed by the grenade, called in the bomb squad who secured the grenade.
