Man caught trying to smuggle 10 snakes onto a plane inside his pants at Soekarno-Hatta airport

A man who was scheduled to fly on a Garuda Indonesia flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday ended up not making his plane because he was caught with 10 snakes in his pants.

The reptile smuggler, identified as Jihad Koufiah, was caught with the wriggling pantload, contained with several black cloth bags, by security officers in Terminal 2 before he could create a real life “Snakes on a Plane” type scenario.

The news was confirmed by Garuda Indonesia’s vice president of corporate communications, Benny Butarbutar.

“He was caught quickly while passing through the x-ray at the entrance to the airport,” Benny told Kompas on Sunday.

Benny said there was no way for snakes to legally be brought into a plane’s passenger cabin (otherwise known as the “Snakes on a Plane” rule) and that they could only be brought as cargo under very specific conditions.

There is not yet any information about the snake smuggler’s motive for hiding the reptiles in his pants (whether for profit, pleasure or both) or what kind of criminal charges he might face. However, we know what Samuel L Jackson would have several choice words for him.
