One of  our favorite electronic bands, Bottlesmoker, is performing at the Institut Français d’Indonésie Auditorium Friday night as part of the Printemps Français festival. The dynamic duo from Bandung’s latest show, called “Hypnagogic Journey” will combine their signature brand of pulsating electro with pantomime, poetry and live visuals to create a truly one-of-a-kind performance. Fatback is the latest pop-up food market from the fine folks at Culinary Escape, and they’ve got quite a collection of gourmet offerings to tempt you at Lippo Mall Kemang this weekend. Meat pies? Check. Designer donuts? Check. Cheesesteaks, s’more cakes and dendeng balado? Check check check. (Don’t think there’ll be any nasi uduk babi, unfortunately…).

Enjoy a free outdoor concert with two of Indonesia’s best indie bands, Stars & Rabbits and Pandai Besi (Saturday)

The only thing better than listening to a great band is doing so out in the open air. Two of the coolest bands on the Indonesian indie scene, Stars & Rabbit and Pandai Besi, will be performing at Erasmus Huis this Saturday evening at 5pm for what’s sure to be an an amazing concert!

Enjoy the Middle Eastern art of movement at Bellydance Jakarta’s Summer Hafla (Saturday)

Jakarta has a large and vibrant bellydancing community of practitioners of the sensual Middle Eastern dance art. You can watch them shimmy their stuff this Saturday at their Summer Hafla, taking place at Maroush restaurant in the Crown Plaza Hotel. Doors open at 7:30pm and tickets are Rp 350k at the door, including a buffet dinner. 

 

Get a taste of old Batavia on this culinary walking tour of Kota Tua (Sunday)

There’s not only a ton of history to be found in Jakarta’s Kota Tua district, but a ton of delicious food as well. Jakarta Food Adventure, which organizes a number of cool tours around Jakarta, is having a special charity walking tour “Explore Kota Tua & The Taste of Dutch and Betawi Culinary”. In addition to learning all about the rich history of the area, you’ll get to taste a wide variety of old school Dutch and Indonesian delights like poffertjes, bitterballen, kerak telor and babanci soup. There will also be coffee tasting and a cooking demo. Tickets are Rp 250k and proceeds go to benefit the charity “Pulau Sahabat”.
