Do you think Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is the best thing to happen to us since sate came on skewers? Would you like to see him lead Jakarta for another term starting in 2017?
Perhaps none wish for that more than volunteer group Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok), who have, to date, amassed almost 900 thousand Jakartan voter IDs to make Ahok eligible to run as an independent candidate in the 2017 governor election (they have already collected well over the minimum requirement of 532 thousand IDs).
As is the case with all election campaigns, Ahok needs lots of money to run his, even if he consistently tops electability surveys against other potential candidates. For that reason, the volunteer group is holding a fundraiser called Teman Ahok Fair this weekend.
Teman Ahok Fair will be held at Gudang Sarinah in Pancoran, South Jakarta from May 28-29. It will showcase some of the nation’s biggest music acts like Mocca, White Shoes and the Couples Company, Sore, and Project Pop.
“So artists are going to provide entertainment day and night during the 2 days. There will be several music groups. They are going to play for free, it’s a way for them to help the fundraiser,” Ahok said, as quoted by Merdeka today.
Ahok also confirmed that he will attend the event.
Tickets for the event are available for Rp 25K if you order online, and Rp 35K at the door.
