KRL Commuterline giving away free books to celebrate National Books Day

Happy National Books Day, bookworms!

To celebrate this occasion, PT KCJ is giving away free books to lucky passengers on the KRL Commuterline this afternoon.

“We’re cooperating with Gramedia [bookstore] to celebrate National Books Day. With this program, PT KCJ can do our part to contribute to a culture of reading among Jabodetabek citizens,” wrote PT KCJ Communications Manager Eva Chairunisa, as picked up by Kompas today.

The free books are only available for Multi Trip Card (KMT) holders, specifically those traveling between Palmerah station and Jakarta Kota station from 10 am until stocks last.

Any campaign to get Indonesians to read more should certainly be commended, as we ranked the second-least literate nation in a recent ranking of 61 countries.

The Jakarta Provincial Government also wants to introduce a campaign where citizens turn off their TVs in favor of books every evening, though we have not yet heard of any further developments regarding that plan.
