Jakarta’s Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) has, over the last few years, become one of the centers of nightlife in Jakarta. One of the most popular spots for party people in SCBD is rooftop bar Lucy in the Sky, beloved by many for its packed DJ events that often go late into the night.
But there is a group of people who definitely do not love Lucy – the residents of nearby apartment building Sudirman Mansion, who recently put this huge sign up on the front of their building:
The sign reads: “Our children and babies cannot sleep because Lucy in the Sky is very noisy and does not care about the comfort of people living nearby”
A photo of the sign was also posted by Sudirman Mansion’s official Twitter account, showing it was not just the work of disgruntled residents but endorsed by the building’s management itself. Sudirman Mansion also tweeted this:
“Lucy in the Sky is owned by people that are inconsiderate and don’t have social responsibility.”
In another tweet, Sudirman Mansion posted a screenshot of a Whatsapp conversation with a resident in which the buildings management said they had already reported the problem and were following up on it everyday in the hopes it could be resolved quickly.
According to Google Maps, Sudirman Mansion is a mere 180 meter walk from Lucy in the Sky, which is the only outdoor music venue in the popular Fairgrounds complex.
We know from experience that Lucy can play its music pretty loud late into the night. But at the same time, both Sudirman Mansion and Lucy have been around for many years, so we wonder why this issue has only reached “giant embarrassing sign on the side of the building level” now?
