Say what you like about Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and his arch-nemesis Jakarta City Councilor Abraham “Haji Lulung” Lunggana, but together they add some much needed entertainment to the otherwise serious(ish) world of Indonesian politics.
Yesterday, Haji Lulung bet that he would cut off his ear if Ahok had the balls to sue the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) over the Sumber Waras land purchase corruption allegations. Just as expected, Ahok said he’d welcome such a scenario.
“About Lulung, you ask him first, how far is he going to cut his ear? Until it all comes off or just a slice?” Ahok told reporters at City Hall today, as quoted by Okezone.
“So many have lied [about bets] before, like when someone said they’d jump off of Monas.”
Ahok was referring to Gerindra politician Habiburokhman, who said he’d jump off of Monas if Ahok receives enough voter IDs for an independent run in the 2017 governor election. Now that Ahok is eligible for an independent run, Habiburokhman still hasn’t become a splatter mark on the base of Monas.
By the look of things, Ahok will probably sue the BPK soon. We’ll see if Haji Lulung will hold true to his word when the time comes.
