5 Cool Things To Do in Jakarta This Weekend! (April 1-3)

Party with two-time world #1 DJ Hardwell (Saturday night)
Robbert van de Corput aka Hardwell has twice topped DJ Magazine’s annual list of the Top 100 DJs and is, without a doubt, one of the greatest house DJs and EDM artists performing today. Hardwell came to Jakarta in 2013 for a legendary concert that many EDM fans still remember as being one of the highlights of that year. Now Hardwell is teaming up with Ismaya once again to make his Jakarta stop on the “I Am Hardwell – United We Are” tour even bigger and crazier than the last one. Go on a culinary tour of Jakarta’s very own Little India (Saturday morning)

You might have heard that Jakarta has its own Little Tokyo in Blok M’s Melawai, but did you know that there is also a Little India area in Pasar Baru? If you’re a fan of Indian food and culture, then you should definitely consider joining this charity walking tour, organized by “Jakarta Food Adventure”, which will take you to temples and stores owned by Indonesian-Indian descendants as well as give you plenty of opportunities to try different kinds of Indian food. Proceeds from this Saturday’s tour go towards charity groups “Share the Food Community” (@berbaginasiJKT) and Kuliner Kasih. If you can’t make it this Saturday, Jakarta Food Adventure also organizes private walking tours of Little India and other parts of the city. For more info and to sign up, head to their Eventbrite page.

Hear the awesomely eclectic beats of Filastine (Friday evening)

Filastine is one of the coolest, most eclectic musical acts touring the world today. In his own words, Grey Filastine composes “gritty electronic music that collides the lowest frequencies of bass music with the highest-level beat science, acoustic instruments and field recordings.” His songs also feature exquisite lyrical rhymes from Javanese indie rapper Nova. The two will be taking the stage at @america for a special live gig and entrance is free! If you’re interested in avantgarde EDM with a political edge, be sure to catch this gig. Starts at 7pm. Watch, listen and eat at the Film Musik Makan festival (Saturday and Sunday)

This festival combines three of our favorite things in life: food, music and movies. Taking place at Goethe Haus this Saturday and Sunday, Film Musik Makan will feature the premieres of 14 different short and feature length films. We’re particularly interested to see “Potongan”, a documentary about the film censorship board in Indonesia that follows two films (including “The Look of Silence”) as they try to get approval from the board.
