Netizens say they won’t use Blue Bird taxis after violent protest videos go viral, Blue Bird responds

Blue Bird has long been considered the most trustworthy and reliable taxi company in all of Jakarta. But viral videos of today’s massive public transportation protests, which have shown such shocking incidents as Blue Bird drivers smashing the cabs of those not joining the protest, or another of a cab driver repeatedly trying to run over protesters, have caused dozens upon dozens of Jakartans to slam the company online and declare that they would stop using their taxis (or all taxis) in favor of the ride-hailing alternatives (like Uber) the protesters were demonstrating against.

“A company like this is no different than FPI!”

The hashtag #boikotBlueBird is also gaining steam.

“I was willing to be neutral, but after seeing the brutality, regardless of the reason, I am forced to have to choose to #BoikotBlueBird”

“Maybe there will still be many that will use Blue Bird. But as for me and people in my house, we will just be using online taxis. #boikotBlueBird”

The company’s stock has also taken a hit this morning.

Blue Bird recently responded on their official Twitter account:

1. Here is the official statement of Blue Bird’s management related to today’s protests:

2. The management of Blue Bird deplores the demonstrations today that have been colored by vigilante actions by a number of demonstrations.

3. Management will act decisively against Blue Bird drivers who have been proven to take part in anarchy.

4. If netizens have evidence (photos / video) regarding the involvement of our drivers, please report it via social media or email it to customercare@bluebirdgroup.com

5. We need this evidence because blue uniforms are not only used by Blue Bird.

6. The Management of Blue Bird calls on the demonstrators to politely express their aspirations and not create chaos for all parties.

7. Losses caused by passengers forced to get out of their taxis can also be reported to us. Thanks.
