“Same Love” stars Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to headline We The Fest 2016 (Aug 13-14)

We The Fest just gets better and better with age. Following its kickass line-up last year, WTF is returning this year with a slate of headliners that are sure to turn some heads.

Yes, it’s true. We The Fest has confirmed that Grammy Award-winning hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are going to be among the headliners of this year’s festival, which is taking place on August 13-14.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have skyrocketed to stardom in recent years following the breakthrough success of their debut album “The Heist” in 2012, which contains instantly recognizable mega hits like “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us”. We’ve also lost count of how many times “Same Love” has been played on Indonesian radio stations over the past couple of years. The song, if you haven’t noticed by now, condemns homophobia and calls for tolerance for homosexuality, which is a message that’s wholly relevant in Indonesia right now.

Other big names already signed up to the festival include Purity Ring, Ryan Hemsworth, and Mark Ronson, who you may recognize as the producer of yet another ubiquitous song in Indonesia (though we doubt he’ll be bringing Bruno Mars along just to help him perform it):

Local acts like Naif, The Trees and the Wild, and Sajama Cut are also set to take the stage. Mind you, the organizers claim they’ve only announced less than half of the planned acts for the festival, so keep your eyes peeled for more announcements.
