Watch: Joey Alexander gets standing ovation at Grammy Awards ceremony

If you’ve watched or heard news about the 2016 Grammy Awards by now, then you probably already know that Indonesian jazz wiz kid Joey Alexander failed to bring home a Grammy despite two nominations.

Nevertheless, Joey did us all proud when he performed at the ceremony, on the same stage graced by world-famous musicians such as Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Adele and many more before him.

Joey was introduced by multi-Grammy winning rapper Common and Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, who used Joey as an example of the immense talent of the younger generation whose careers could be at risk if people don’t purchase their music legally.

Joey didn’t say a single word before he launched into a brief, dazzling performance of his original composition ‘City Lights’, which visibly wowed the seasoned musicians in the audience and earned him a well-deserved standing ovation.

Despite not taking home a Grammy, Joey has experienced a meteoric rise to jazz prominence over the past few months, culminating in his debut album, ‘My Favorite Things’, topping the Billboard Jazz Charts.
