“Sleepy” driver kills 4, including own passengers, in Jalan Daan Mogot car crash

The police have named 24-year-old Riki Agung Prasetio as a suspect in a deadly car crash that occurred on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, early Monday morning.

At around 3:30 AM, Riki was reportedly driving a Toyota Fortuner at high speeds when he crashed the car into a motorcycle driven by a married couple, Zulkahfi Rahman and Nuraini.

The couple died immediately from the impact.

After the crash with the motorcycle, Riki lost control of the car, which then crashed into a utility pole before rolling several times. Two of Riki’s seven passengers died as a result.

“The driver of the [Toyota] Fortuner has been officially named a suspect,” said Grand Commissioner Budiyanto, head of the Law Enforcement Division for the Jakarta Metro Police, as quoted by Vivanews yesterday.

Riki is facing up to 15 years in prison for the deadly car crash.

There were earlier suspicions that Riki was driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics when he was driving the car, as both he and the passengers admitted that they were just returning from a night out drinking in Kalijodo.

However, Riki was cleared of DUI charges as his urine test at the Tangerang Regional Hospital came out negative.

Authorities say that they believe Riki was tired and sleepy when he crashed the car.
