Ridwati, a 69-year-old resident of Manggarai, South Jakarta, says she became the victim of a scam carried out by foreigners, in which she lost Rp 155 million.
Yesterday, Ridwati says she was walking around Bogor just before noon when four caucasian foreigners went up to her to ask if she could exchange some US Dollars they had on them into rupiah.
“And then they asked me to withdraw money from an ATM on Jalan Djuanda, to be exchanged with the US Dollars they were carrying,” Ridwati said, as quoted by Okezone yesterday.
Ridwanti says the foreigners somehow hypnotized her into withdrew Rp 155 million and exchanging it for the cash they were carrying.
According to her, the foreigners then dropped Ridwati off at the Bogor Train Station and left her on her own. It was only then that she thought to look at the cash they had given her. To her shock, she found all they have given her was 40 Rp 2,000 notes.
Ridwati then reported the incident to the Bogor Police, but the authorities have not been able to locate the suspects so far.
