Blasphemous cake: Police raid shop selling baking pans covered in Quranic scripture

The police on Monday raided a shop in Pancoran Mas, Depok, after receiving complaints from locals that it sold baking pans covered with pages taken out of the Quran.

Expanding on their investigation, the police located the factory producing the bakery pans in Parung, Bogor, where more of the blasphemous crime was uncovered.

“It’s true we followed the investigation to a factory in Parung. From hundreds of baking pans, six of them had pages from the Quran stuck on them,” said Commissioner Teguh Nugroho, head of the Crime Investigation Unit at the Depok Police, as quoted by Vivanews today.

One of the shop’s customers in Depok, Abdulrohim, said he was shocked to find Quranic scripture stuck on the baking pan he bought recently.

“As a Muslim, of course I can’t accept it. This is blasphemy,” he said, before adding that he reported his finding to the police.

No one has been charged with blasphemy yet for this case.
