It’s still not clear what happened to 20-year-old Ardi Wiranata and 18-year-old Fitria this morning. But what is known is that the young couple were both found engulfed in flames on Jalan Raya Malaka Gang Ketapang in Cipayung, East Jakarta.
One local resident, 34-year-old Ahmad, said he first knew something was wrong when he heard shouts from inside Ardi’s house. He tried to find out what was wrong and soon found the couple already covered in fire.
“Both of them could still be saved, but their burns were severe. They were taken to the Police Hospital but were rejected and eventually brought to RSCM Hospital,” Ahmad said today as quoted by Tribunnews.
Ahmad said that the rumor in their neighborhood was that the young couple had purposefully set themselves on fire in order to commit suicide, although there was no evidence yet to support that conclusion.
