Family of suspected chiropractic malpractice victim now allowing autopsy to help with police investigation

The investigation into the death of Allya Siska Nadya, who may have died last year as a result of complications caused by treatments from an American chiropractor named Dr Randall Cafferty, hit a snag when Allya’s family refused to allow her body to be autopsied by investigators.

However, they changed their minds yesterday in order to speed up the police investigation.

“At the time [of Allya’s death], the family was in such a state of shock [that they refused an autopsy on Allya]. They never imagined that it would turn out this way,” said the family’s legal representative, Rosita P Radjah, as quoted by Kompas yesterday.

“We’re now leaving it all up to the police. If this autopsy can reveal the truth about what happened, then so be it.”

Jakarta Metro Police are working with Interpol to locate and arrest Dr Cafferty, who reportedly fled the country after Allya’s death.

The police are also temporarily shutting down all Chiropractic First clinics – where Allya received her treatment – throughout Jakarta as the investigation is ongoing. The clinics are located in Pondok Indah Mall, Taman Anggrek, Grand Indonesia, Emporium Pluit, FX Senayan, Lippo Mall Puri, and Kota Kasablanka.
