Indonesia is officially hosting the MotoGP in 2017

Officials from MotoGP, the world’s premier motorcycle racing event, and Indonesian authorities have been in talks about having the country host a MotoGP race in 2017. These talks have been going on for months, leaving race fans wondering if it would really happen.

But it looks like the negotiations have finally been completed and now it’s official: Indonesia is going to be hosting the MotoGP in 2017.

“It’s true. [The Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs] has just signed a letter of intent which will soon be sent to Dorna [MotoGP organizers] by November 20,” said the ministry’s communication head, Gatot S Dewa Broto in a statement released earlier this week as quoted by Antara.

Today Dorna officially accepted the letter, making the agreement legally binding.

Based on the agreement, it looks like Indonesia’s MotoGP event will take place in October or November 2017. Indonesia has also prepared a master plan and a presidential agreement to help cement the plans, which Indonesia is now legally bound to follow through on or face financial penalties. The likely location of the race track will be the Sentul International Circuit near Bogor.
