Ahok upset education agency paid “expert programmers” Rp 57 million to install scanners

Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama seems like he’s on a crusade to seek out and punish people within the provincial government who are misusing funds from the Regional Budget.

After saying he would investigate the tourism agency for alleged corruption, Ahok has now set his sights on the education agency after finding discrepancies in their use of the Regional Budget as well.

Ahok said he couldn’t believe when he found out that the education agency had spent Rp 57 million to pay for “expert programmers” for a seemingly simple task that took them six days to do.

“The education agency is still hiring contractors. Do you know what name they call [their contractors]? Expert programmers. What for? To [install] scanners. My 9-year-old kid can do that,” Ahok said today, as quoted by Detik.

“I said that’s crazy. They worked for six days and were paid Rp 57 million.”

Ahok added that he already confronted the head of the education agency, who admitted it was his fault. It’s not yet known if there is going to be a corruption investigation into the education agency.
