The Depok Police arrested a ‘mami’ – a colloquial term used to describe female pimps – after she was caught trying to sell the services of a 16-year-old sex worker during an undercover operation.
The 30-year-old mami, identified by her initials DA, advertised the teen sex worker on social media, which made her an easy target for an undercover operation.
“After we lured her using an undercover identity, we successfully apprehended the suspect when she was carrying out a transaction at a hotel,” said Depok Police Chief Dwiyono, as quoted by Vivanews today.
The police say DA’s clients were mostly foreigners. She mainly employed young teenage girls who have dropped out of school.
Authorities are investigating DA’s operation further to see if she has more sex workers under her employ, or if she’s part of a larger prostitution syndicate.
DA could face up to 10 years in prison for sexually exploiting children.
