North Jakarta boy tests negative for bird flu, gets discharged from hospital

Eleven-year-old DA was examined at the Prof Dr Sulianti Saroso Infectious Diseases Hospital in North Jakarta after he was suspected of contracting bird flu. Thankfully, the results came out negative.

Doctors deemed the boy to have recovered enough from his fever that he was allowed to return home yesterday.

“My son has come home and he’s out playing with his friends,” said DA’s mother, Nur, at their home in Koja, North Jakarta, as quoted by Warta Kota yesterday.

DA was treated at the hospital for three days before he was eventually discharged.

“The doctors say the [bird flu] tests came back negative. I was so relieved to hear that,” Nur said.

DA was previously suspected of contracting bird flu because he exhibited the disease’s symptoms soon after he came in direct contact with his four dead pet chickens.
