Lately there have been a number of incidents recently in which Indonesians posted photos of themselves with dead animals that then immediately went viral. There was the recent case of Ida Tri Susanti, who posted photos holding the carcasses of protected leopard cats that were widely spread online, leading to her being investigated by the police.

Just yesterday, a Facebook user going by the name Putra Tasti Ulbr posted shocking photos of himself with a dead honey bear that, according to the photo captions, he had recently hunted.

The first photo shows the bear’s thigh being cut open. The second photo, pictured above, shows Putra posing with the bear’s severed head (if you really want to see the full uncensored photos you can go to this Kaskus page, but we’re warning you they are bloody and could be disturbing to some)

Putra has blocked his Facebook account from the public, but before he did, the photos were shared over 4,300 times and received over 4,000 comments, the vast majority of which condemned Putra for his acts of animal cruelty and demanded that the police immediately track down the owner of the account.

“May he be sentenced accordingly ….. the lives of living are being used by you as a toy? Karma will come for you …..” commented Facebook user Rahde Dhamar Perbangkara.

It’s not clear where Putra Tasti Ulbr lives, but his Facebook account indicates states that he lives in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra and that he was studying at a university in Bengkulu.

While these incidents are sad, at least they are gaining attention because Indonesian netizens are so outraged by them –  it seems there are a lot more people here who care about the welfare of animals than most would have guessed.
