Did you know that while America has the infamous Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang, some of Jakarta’s most notorious bikers are known as the Amerika Gang?
And just like America, the Amerika Gang has a lot of people who don’t like them. Police reported yesterday that a giant brawl broke out when the Amerika Gang was targeted by the combined forces of five other gangs on October 4 at the Pasar Rebo Ciracas flyover.
“There were about 250 people from the combined motorcycle gangs and there were 50 members of the Amerika motorcycle gang,” said Jakarta Police Commissioner Doffie Fahlevi yesterday, as quoted by Tempo.
Doffie said the Amerika gang was targeted by a coalition of five gangs: Dandre’s, Valem, Gerbatus, Serdadu, and Bedeng. According to police, the five gangs had a serious grudge against the Amerikans.
“The Amerika gang is considered to always be looking for trouble,” Doffie said.
Before the brawl, the anti-Amerika coalition first gathered at Geng Buah in Pasar Rebo, said to be the basecamp of Dandre’s gang. There they armed themselves with weapons including sickles, machetes and samurai swords.
Ar around 4am, they went to the Pasar Rebo flyover, a popular hangout spot for the Amerikans,where they attacked the group of 50 with overwhelming force. Outmanned and out-macheted, the Amerikans fled after just a brief clash.
But one of the Amerikans, Oktav Andriyanto, fell off his bike and was attacked by the combined motorcycle gangs. One of his fellow Amerikans, Calvin Faldi Mainaky, tried to help but was attacked as well. Oktav died, while Calvin was treated in hospital for the 17 stab wounds he received.
After the clash, the anti-Amerika coalition of gangs went back back to Geng Buah. Police say that from October 7-12 October, they arrested three of the gang members in East Jakarta and Bekasi. One of them was a minor. They face up to 9 years in prison for their involvement in the brawl and other crimes.
