Three men suspected of brutally murdering transsexual in Bekasi arrested by police

The Jakarta Police have arrested three young men, identified as A, S, N, for the brutal murder and robbery of a transexual in North Cikarang.

The victim, known as Selvi, is believed to have been a sex worker who lived in the same area as the three suspects. Police say the young men planned on robbing Selvi for some time.

On Saturday night, S lured Selvi to a secluded area with the promise of work. The other two, as well as a fourth suspect identified as AN, then ambushed her.

“The perpetrator had already brought stones and knives with them,” said Jakarta Police Commissioner Krishna Murti today as quoted by MetroTV.

Her assailants bashed Selvi head with the rock and stabbed her with the knife. She tried to fight back but was fatally injured in the assault. The young men then took Selvi’s bag, containing Rp 119,000 and a cell phone which they later sold for Rp 650,000, splitting up the cash between them.

After Selvi’s body was found the next day, police managed to track down and arrest A, S and N at separate locations. They have not yet found AN.

Police have charged the three with premeditated murder.

While truly a sad story, we are at least be glad to see that, even though Selvi was a member of a persecuted minority group, the police investigated the crime and have brought almost all of her killers to justice.
