KRL Commuterline to introduce 12-car trains on busy Bogor and Bekasi lines

Anyone who’s been inside a KRL Commuterline train during rush hour has probably cursed at PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) for not providing longer trains, which seems like an obvious solution to create more breathing space between passengers.

Well, PT KCJ will soon introduce a new 12-cars train formation to increase passenger capacity on two of the KRL Commuterline’s busiest lines, Bogor-Jakarta and Bekasi-Jakarta.

PT KCJ First Director Muhammad Nurul Fadhilla said they first have to lengthen some station’s platforms to accommodate longer trains.

“The lengthening of the platforms is planned for completion by the end of 2015,” he said, as quoted by Kompas today.

Currently, most KRL Commuterlines are 8 cars long. Some 10-car trains are available on the Bogor-Jakarta and Bekasi-Jakarta lines.
