Drones now require Transport Ministry permit to fly

We’re big fans of drone videos that show Jakarta at high, majestic angles like this one.

But the Transport Ministry is going to make it a tad harder for drone owners to fly their toys in the country. Soon they will be required to get permits before taking their drones up into the air.

“The [new] regulation is there, when it’s in effect [drones] must register [with the ministry],” said Transport Minister Ignasis Jonan today, as quoted by Merdeka.

Ignasius added that owners must meet certain requirements in order to fly their drones. The regulation was designed so that people can take responsibility of their drones and to create an organized traffic system for unmanned flying objects.

It wasn’t revealed when the new regulation will come in effect.
