The Mandom factory in the industrial area of Cibitung, Bekasi, caught on fire this morning, causing a large number of casualties.
“Because of the fire, five people died and 50 people received serious burn injuries,” said Jakarta Police Spokesman Muhammad Iqbal, as quoted by Vivanews today.
From the five who were deceased, four were taken to the Kramat Jati National Police Hospital in East Jakarta, while one was taken to the Bekasi Regional Hospital.
The 50 who were injured are being treated at three different hospitals in Bekasi.
Authorities are still trying to identify the cause of the fire, though they suspect it was caused by a gas leak inside the factory.
PT Mandom mainly produces cosmetic products such as Gatsby, Pixy and Pucelle.
