18-year-old pleads guilty to indecent assault and unlawful sex with minors

An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to an undisclosed amount of time at a correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to five counts of unlawful sex with a girl under the age of 16, and one count of indecent assault.

Oriental Daily reports that the defendant, surnamed Wong, had unlawful sex with two underage girls, aged 11 and 13, beginning when he was 17 years old.

Last year, Wong was charged with raping the 11-year-old girl, whom he reportedly had invited to his home in Sheung Shui under the pretence of borrowing cosplay outfits, before giving her a drink that allegedly made her fall unconscious.

The incident reportedly occurred in April, after the two met online. In October, Wong was further charged with multiple counts of having unlawful sex with an underage girl, identified as Z, while awaiting trial on bail.

Apple Daily reports that Wong and 13-year-old Z began dating after meeting on Facebook, and sold mobile phones to pay for lodging in guesthouses.

During sentencing at the District Court today, the defence reportedly argued that Wong was diagnosed with a “mild mental disability”, and had not been properly disciplined due to his parents divorcing when he was a toddler, leading to an “aimless” life of constantly browing pornographic websites.

Judge Eddie Yip apparently acknowledged Wong’s “lower than average intelligence”, but said the case was still “very grave”. Yip reprimanded Wong for being “undisciplined”, having unprotected sex with minors, violating his bail conditions, and his “poor awareness of how to abide the law”.

Wong was sentenced to an undisclosed amount of time in a correctional facility.
