Ahok laments the use of locally produced buses after Salemba Transjakarta bus fire

After yet another Transjakarta bus caught on fire this morning in Salemba, Central Jakarta, Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama revealed he’s at a loss as to why the previous city administration purchased such low quality buses.

Ahok said the burned bus was a Komodo bus, manufactured by local company PT Eka Sari Lorena 10 years ago.

“In the old agreement there was no obligation for maintenance by the operator (PT Eka Sari Lorena). The buses they sent were also below standard. This is why I’m confused, if you have money, would you buy a globally renowned brand [of bus] or an obscure brand? [Would you rather] buy Scania or Komodo? They cost the same, but [the Komodo] is low in quality,” Ahok said at City Hall today, as quoted by Kompas

This morning, a Transjakarta bus caught on fire by the University of Indonesia Salemba bus stop. The bus’ operator believes the fire was caused by an electrical failure.

Thankfully, there were no casualties from the fire. The University of Indonesia Salemba bus stop is currently closed after the fire from as the bus also damaged parts of the station.
