​Snippet-acular! Indonesia to have first movie trailer awards

These days, many people get just as excited about movie trailers as the movies they’re meant to promote (as evidenced by the tens of millions of people who watched and re-watched the trailers to upcoming blockbusters like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Batman v Superman on Youtube).

It’s like movie trailers are an art form in an of itself, and now there’s an award in Indonesia to recognize that.

The Indonesia Film Trailer Awards (IFTA) 2015 will be the first annual award rewarding Indonesian movie trailers in categories also contested at the Oscars, including Best Editing, Best Sound Design, and Best Music among others.

IFTA 2015 will be held on September 4. Filmmakers can enter their trailers for awards consideration until July 25.

Most of the Indonesian movie trailers we’ve seen are ‘meh’ and generally give too much away, so hopefully we’ll see an increase in movie trailer quality after the introduction of IFTA.

On the other side of the spectrum, many Indonesian movie trailers are so ridiculously-bad-they’re-awesome they probably won’t win anything at IFTA. But since they’re so much fun, here are a few of our favorites:
